Wheat Free Bread

When you first begin avoiding wheat in your diet, you may miss your daily bread. Don’t worry; you can have wheat free bread!
You can find specialty breads in specialty markets that are specifically wheat free. (If they are marked as gluten free, they are also wheat free.) Often, you can find them in the freezer section. Also, if you like them, corn tortillas are a great substitute for bread.
If you are concerned about your budget as well as having wheat free bread, you can always make your own! A one-time investment in a bread machine will pay off for years, saving you money versus store-bought bread and worry over what’s in your bread.
There are lots of recipes available for wheat free bread, made with bran, potato, rice, or other wheat free products. Here is a bread recipe that is great to start with. Any specialty ingredients can be found at a health food store.
Wheat Free Bread
1.5 cups of warm water
3 eggs
3 Tablespoons of oil
3 Tablespoons of honey
1 package of yeast
1 Tablespoon Xantham gum
1 cup of gram flour or white bean flour
1 cup of rice flour
3/4 cup of cornstarch
1.5 teaspoons of salt
In your bread machine pan, combine the ingredients, set the machine and go!
If you don’t have a bread machine, first mix the wet ingredients and the yeast. In a separate bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients, then add them to the wet ingredients and stir them well.
Put the mixture into a loaf pan and smooth the top. Cover it with a cloth and let it rise for an hour. (Check it beforehand the first time you make it.)
It is done rising when it reaches the top of the pan. Cook it for 50 – 60 minutes in a 350-degree (F) oven. The bread is done when the top looks done and it sounds hollow when you tap it.
