Wheat Free Diet

Whether you are allergic to wheat or similar products, or whether you’re trying to eliminate wheat for some of the benefits such a diet brings, it can be a difficult transition.
Switching to a wheat free diet takes patience, but once you learn what to look for, you will be fine. Learn the substitutions. Experiment with recipes, and keep your favorites close at hand.
As with any specialized diet, it is a good idea to have ten to twenty favorite dinners and lunches that you can always choose from. Keep these recipes in a notebook, a three-ring binder, or an index card file in your kitchen.
Before you do your big shopping trips, whether they are once a week, once every other week, or monthly, pull out your recipe file and decide what you’re going to make. Mark it on your calendar. Now you know exactly what you need to buy to stay on track with your wheat free diet for the next week or two.
Remember that when you’re looking for specialty items for your wheat free diet, anything that is appropriate for a gluten free diet will also, by definition, be wheat free. This makes it much easier to shop, especially now that food manufacturers have begun catering to the gluten free world.
Wheat free diets may be a good idea for many different types of people. Some people have noticed better concentration and focus in their children after going wheat free.
Some people who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) have reported that their symptoms have improved greatly or maybe even been completely eliminated after switching to a wheat free diet. (Some of the same IBS sufferers say being dairy free as well makes an even bigger difference.)
There are also some people who suggest that a wheat free diet may be good as part of an overall treatment plan for those with autism or Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD).
Whatever the reason may be that you are going to a wheat free diet, just get in the habit of reading labels, shopping in specialty sections of the market, and planning your meals. It will get easier the longer you do it.
