Wheat Free Foods

Switching to a new diet can be intimidating. If your diet is now wheat free, don’t worry. There are so many wheat free foods available.

Instead of thinking about what you can’t have, make a list of all the great foods you CAN eat!

Of course, there are so many specialty wheat free foods available now. Mostly, you’ll find these in specialty health food stores, but you may be surprised to know that you can probably find a few of them in your grocery store, too.

In addition to specialty foods for a wheat free diet, remember there are hundreds of “regular” foods that are naturally wheat free.

All vegetables and fruits that you find in the produce section are wheat free! Steamed, sautéed in a tiny bit of healthy oil or even a little butter, baked…you have so many options for these naturally wheat free foods.

Of course, all your meats and seafood are wheat free, too. Beef, pork, chicken – yep, all wheat free. Fish and shellfish are, too.

You’ll need to be careful in the processed meat department. Hot dog or sausage manufacturers may add wheat to the product, so read the labels very carefully before buying or eating them.

Another section that obviously has products that qualify as wheat free foods is the dairy section of your grocery store. Milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. are all wheat free.

(Remember, however, there’s a difference between wheat free and gluten free, so if you’re looking for gluten free, read those labels carefully! Yogurt may have added gluten.)

Notice that these foods are all on the “outside” sections of the supermarket. We haven’t entered those center aisles yet.

The center aisles also have many products that are wheat free, but you need to be extra vigilant about reading labels there. Many condiments will be just fine, as will some cereals.

With a little extra time, finding wheat free foods doesn’t have to be all that difficult. Remember to stick to natural products that are as close to their original state as possible, and never, ever forget to read those labels!
